Supporting Students with Disabilities in the Capital Region

Kevin G. Langan School at Albany Classrooms and Teachers

MOVE in the Classrooms

The MOVE (Mobility Opportunities Via Education and Experience) Program is used in all of the educational programs within the Center for Disability Services. MOVE is an activity-based, research supported program, focused on building functional mobility skills to improve independence within a students’ school, home and community. MOVE uses planned practice throughout the school day to provide opportunities to work on sitting, standing, and walking as well as transitions during functional tasks to promote participation and access to their environment. MOVE is used as a bridge to connect our clinical services with education and the home to build meaningful programming from early childhood to graduation.

The MOVE program uses a variety of equipment such as walkers, standers, and specialized seating to support our students and staff for safe and repeated practice. MOVE is implemented by highly trained staff certified in all six program steps, ensuring operation at the highest standard and establishing our programs as MOVE model sites. The Center also has International MOVE Trainers who travel throughout the world to run courses for new and current trainers and visit Model Sites for assessment.

Move International Trainers on Staff:

  • Gillian Reid, COTA
  • Stacie Cousineau, Curriculum Coordinator
  • Ginger Hollner, MOVE Special Education Teacher

Langan Art Club

The Langan Art Club began in 2025 as a small group of Secondary MOVE students and has since grown into a vibrant, inclusive community of both RAAVE and MOVE students from all age groups. The club meets once a month in the school cafeteria, where members explore a wide range of creative themes, including famous artists, local events, and mixed media projects.

In 2021, Art Club hosted its first CloverPatch and Langan Art Show, held in the lobby at 314 S. Manning Blvd. This event is reoccurring and has provided an opportunity for both staff and students to showcase their artwork. Attendees were encouraged to vote for their favorite pieces across various categories, with People’s Choice winners receiving certificates at the conclusion of the show.

Art Club empowers students to observe, experiment, and work with diverse materials while encouraging creativity and self-expression. Members learn to reflect, take risks, respect differences, recycle, and embrace mistakes as part of the creative process. Through collaboration and shared experiences, students build connections, develop confidence, and bring their ideas to life.
