The Center for Disability Services and New York State Industries for the Disabled, Inc. (NYSID) Unveil a New Food Pantry
On Friday, June 12th, the ribbon was cut on a new food pantry at the Center Health Care building.
The food pantry aims to support people with disabilities and CFDS staff in collaboration with the Regional Food Bank and Northeast Grocery, Inc.
“Food insecurity exists in every community, particularly among individuals with disabilities and their families, who often face additional barriers to accessing resources and support,” said Maureen O’Brien, President & CEO of NYSID. “At NYSID, we are committed to helping people with disabilities succeed not only in their jobs, but beyond the workplace as well. This partnership reflects our ongoing mission to create opportunities, strengthen independence, and support the overall well-being of the people we serve.”
NYSID received funding for the initiative through a grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation.
Food for the pantry will be purchased by the Center from the Northeast Regional Food Bank to ensure it remains fully stocked.
“The Center for Disability Services is where people get better at life. Getting better at life comes in various forms, and the opportunity to provide our health clinic patients and our school students with food items to assist with their nutritional needs is certainly something we believe is important. We appreciate our partnership with New York State Industries for the Disabled and the support of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation for helping make this food pantry possible and for positively impacting so many lives,” said Greg Sorrentino, President & CEO of the Center for Disability Services.
In addition to unveiling the new food pantry, new funding was announced for a mail inserter at the Center for Disability Services Mail Fulfillment Center. This new equipment will support employees with disabilities and expand operational capabilities.
