Former Yankees Star Bucky Dent, Celebrating 40th Anniversary of His ‘Big Homer’ at Center’s Lake George Aficionado Evening

Two time World Series champion, World Series MVP and three time All Star Bucky Dent, former Yankees player and manager, will be special sports celebrity guest at Lake George Aficionado, on Thursday October 18, at 6 p.m., at the Lake George Club, 4000 Lake Shore Drive, Diamond Point. Dent is celebrating the 40th anniversary of his “big homer” in the October 2, 1978, American League East tie-breaker game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. The Yankees were down 2-0 in the seventh inning when Dent hit a home run with Chris Chambliss and Roy White on base putting the Yankees ahead 3-2. The Yankees went on to win 5-4 and clinch the AL East Championship and the World Series that year.

Bowl-A-Thon Bonanza

On September 9, The NYSCOPBA Bowl-A-Thon raised a record $20,502 to benefit the Creative MOVEment/dance and music therapy programs at the Center for Disability Services. A big crowd turned out at Uncle Sam Lanes in Troy to roll into fall and raise money for the Center on the cloudy, early fall Sunday. Albany’s new Chief of Police, Eric Hawkins, and his wife, Trish, participated in the event by bowling and talking with members of the community, Center staff and adult program participants and the media, all of whom took turns crowding around the new leader of the APD and introducing themselves.

Silver Anniversary Siro’s Cup

The silver anniversary of Siro’s Cup, a benefit for the Center for Disability Services, was a success by any measure. Over its 25 year history, it has become the unofficial kick off to the Saratoga Race Course meet and the place to see and be seen on the eve of opening day at the track. The 2018 version was sponsored by Newton Plaza & Marini Homes— Barry, Sara Lee and Eric Larner and Bob and Monica Marini and Justin and Fallon Marini and it raised more than $269,000 in support of the Center’s programs and services.

Parade of Homes to Benefit Center

The Center for Disability Services is charitable partner of the Capital Region Builders & Remodelers Association’s 2018 Parade of Homes on June 2 and 3 and June 9 and 10, presented by Trustco Bank. The 2018 Parade of Homes will highlight new, custom homes which have been professionally decorated and landscaped. The residences, located in Albany, Schenectady and Saratoga County, feature what is new and innovative in home building and will inspire visitors who take a self-guided tour from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
