Bucky Dent A Big Hit in the North Country

Former New York Yankee Bucky Dent was a big hit with North Country fans of all ages on October 18. Dent, a two time World Series Champion, World Series MVP and three time All Star, was in the area to attend Lake George Aficionado, an inaugural benefit for Prospect Center, a division of the Center for Disability Services.

Dent signed autographs for fans and posed for countless photographs. One guest reported that she was there because meeting him was on her bucket list of things to do!

Dent is celebrating the 40th anniversary of his “big homer” in the October 2, 1978, American League East tie-breaker game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. The Yankees were down 2-0 in the seventh inning when Dent hit a home run. The Yankees went on to win 5-4 and clinch the AL East Championship and the World Series that year.

The fundraiser was billed as an autumn evening on the lake with delectable cuisine, spirits, a silent auction and entertainment by Richie Ortiz. More than 150 guests attended the event at the Lake George Club.

Members of the Albany Empire arena football team were spotted in the crowd— they were hard to miss— and there was a lot of discussion about sports and predictions for upcoming seasons in the large, Adirondack style room, which was decorated by blazing fireplaces and bouquets of fresh flowers in autumn colors.
