VIA
A shared transportation service for individuals with disabilities

The Center’s grant funded VIA Transportation program has ended as of March 3, 2017. The Center attempted to secure additional funding to continue operations of the program, but unfortunately were unsuccessful in obtaining funding in order to continue. If you receive any services or supports from OPWDD and have questions regarding the VIA Transportation program please contact the OPWDD Commissioners office or your local DDRO office.

VIA is very proud of the service we were able to provide to the local community, successfully providing nearly 8,000 trips since June 1, 2016. The Center continues to pursue funding through other state offices and community partners and will update communications on this web page when we have more information.

We are pleased to announce the introduction of VIA Health, a shared medical transportation service for individuals with disabilities which begins operation on March 6, 2017. Trips are by appointment only, Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 6 PM.

A VIA Health rider must have a disability as defined by the American with Disabilities Act and have active Medicaid.

The rider is seeking transportation to a health related appointment in Schenectady County.

It is not required that the rider live in Schenectady County, but the health related appointment the rider is being transported to must be in Schenectady County.

A flat $2.50 charge is levied one way, per trip, per rider.

If you were approved for VIA previously you are still required to complete an online application for VIA Health. Being approved for VIA does not confirm that you are approved for VIA Health ridership.
All riders must complete a new online application for VIA Health at

VIA Health is currently subsidized by the Ellis Hospital arm of the Alliance for Better Health Care Performing Provider System and therefore is limited to services taking place in Schenectady County.
